11		New York, NY	Springer USA has published the book The MPEG Representation of Digital Media edited by Leonardo Chiariglione.

11		Piscataway, NJ	The IEEE has published the paper Multimedia Service Platform Technologies by Sergio Matone (CEDEO), Panos Kudumakis and Mark Sandler (QMUL) and Xin Wang (Huawei). The paper introduces the emerging MPEG-M standard and wim.tv that is based on that standard.

10	29	Milano	The "Corriere della Sera", the second Italian newspaper by circulation, publishes an interview (html, pdf) with Leonardo where he talks about the good side of digital media and how the current bad side could become good, if only....

10	22	Genova	The Rosselli Foundation opens the exhibition "150 years of the Italian genius - world-changing innovations". Here is a sample from the exhibition poster: How is changed our daily life, in our private life and in our relationships with the others. Giulio Natta nvented the plastics and Alessandro Cruto the lamp; Antonio Meucci has changed communication between people with the telephone and Camillo Olivetti writing with his typewriters; going to a new way of enjoying music, with Leonardo Chiariglione's MP3 standard.

07	14-22	Torino	Ten years after the last MPEG meeting held in Italy (55th meeting, Pisa, January 2001) the Polytechnic of Turin has hosted the 97th MPEG meeting. The attendance of close to 500 experts has been the second largest ever. The DMP is currently engaged in the Open Connected TV project and the meeting has accepted the proposal made by CEDEO.net to establish a testing set up to accept proposals of new OCTV software modules.

05	18	Torino	WimLabs Srl is established in the offices of Notary Public Angelo Chianale. WimLabs's mission is to promote the match of demand, supply and distribution of multimedia content and services on the Web using its marketplace, crowdsourcing and digital media streaming solutions.
